The North Carolina General Assembly is trying to sneak an abortion law under the wire. Women are watching.
For those playing along, here’s the text of the proposed bill: HB 695 bill text: ow.ly/mBCa5
Direct text: This act may be known and cited as the Family, Faith, and Freedom Protection Act of 2013. 19
I was expecting that there would be more debate on this.
I’m guessing its coming, though. News station says “debate”
Yep. They debated taxes, and now are debating environmental legislation. Abortion debate is coming.
They’re adding amendments.
“I ask you to allow people the personal right to choose without interference from this chamber” requesting private insurance be exempt.
This provision is directly related to the ACA – basically trying to shut down the use of ACA to fund and help with abortion coverage.
The debate is turning towards the needs of the younger generation, and how the women of NC did not have a chance to speak.
The words “Enslavement of the Uterus” were just used. I’m going to go ask if I can break the chains on my fallopian tubes.
“I would not try to dominate anyone in this chamber with my faith. It is this chamber trying to dominate my body & my uterus with this bill” – Sen. Bryant
“You are trampling on the rights of the women and girls in this state, and the rights of the men in their families.” – Sen Bryant
Requesting more information about the administration of RU486 and when the physician has to be there.
Sen. Kinnear, that is her name! “What this bill would do is require the physician providing any drug or chem. treating erectile dysfunction to be present at the time of administration.”
Things are getting heated in the chamber now. People are trying to say that the bill doesn’t restrict abortion, but it does through sneak tactics.
My issue with bringing up Kurt Gosnell and his collection of fetus feet (ew) is that unless if you are in PA, it has no standing on the abortion clinics in the state being debated.
Sen. Daniel is now raising an amendment. “We’re not taking away the rights of women, we’re taking away the rights of an industry”
“Clearly our colleague in Texas, Wendy Davis has gotten under some peoples skins”
“We have let everyone on this floor speak today, so stop sulking. I’m going to make a bet with you, we debate this for 2 weeks and we’d still end up in the same place. So let’s just go enjoy our holiday”
Silencing people won’t help anyone. Really.
Also – Philadelphia is a city with one really massive case. North Carolina is a STATE. Of course there will be issues of care in a STATE, but these are not provisions to help clinics succeed.
House bill 695 has passed its third reading.
